Il Pianista, Elio de Angelis, Brabham BT55-BMW 1986
Elegance, talent — and a legacy left too soon
A limited edition of 400 signed and numbered prints
Known in the Formula One paddock as “Il Pianista”, Elio de Angelis was admired not only for his speed, but for his smooth, composed driving style and natural elegance. Equally gifted behind the wheel and at the piano, he became one of the most respected figures of Formula One’s turbo era.
In 1986, De Angelis joined Brabham to drive the radical Brabham BT55, designed by Gordon Murray. With its ultra-low profile and near-horizontal BMW turbo engine, the car represented one of the most ambitious aerodynamic concepts of its time.
The BT55 would also mark the final chapter of De Angelis’s Formula One career. His loss later that year made this car forever linked to his legacy — a poignant moment in the history of the sport.
This artwork reflects that balance — the elegance of the driver and the bold engineering of the machine. A clean composition that captures both the character of De Angelis and the distinctive presence of the BT55.
